Boards and Commissions

Citizen Boards and commissions
Serving on a Board or Commission is a great way to become involved in DeSoto. All Board and Commission appointments are made by members of the City Council through an interview process. Interviews are held as terms expire and/or vacancies occur. Generally, interviews are held in the evenings beginning at 6pm.

Appointments to the Arts Commission, DeSoto, Texas Historical Foundation, and Keep DeSoto Beautiful Corporation Board are place-specific and are appointed through an interview process with the specific Councilmember and not as a whole.

All appointees to City of DeSoto Boards, Commissions, and Committees must be residents of DeSoto prior to their appointment, and remain in the City during their tenure.  All applicants will receive and are required to adhere to the attendance policy established by the City Council in Ordinance 1301-99. In addition, any person making application for appointment to a position on any board, commission, agency, or committee to which the City has the final authority to make such appointment shall consent to a criminal history check prior to consideration of the person's application. It is also recommended to review the Guide for DeSoto Public Officials.

Each Board or Commission is responsible for electing its own Chairperson and other Officers.

**NOTE: In order to prevent duplication of submitted applications, we ask that you submit your application when there is a "call for applicants".  We truly appreciate your service to your community!
