Applications will be accepted soon for the second year of DeSoto’s grant-funded Transportation Assistance Program (TAP) for low-to moderate-income DeSoto residents. The program provides the following for applicants who meet HUD eligibility:

· Taxi cab transportation for essential services including doctor appointments, trips to the grocery store or pharmacy, etc.

· Eligible participants will be given a card voucher providing $100 per month for transportation in the Dallas and Ellis County area

Those wishing to participate are encouraged to email Transportation@desototexas.gov or call 972.230.7350 for more information. That number receives voicemails only. Please leave a message and your call will be returned within 24 hours.

Workshops to explain the program, eligibility criteria, and provide assistance with the application process will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 10 am, in the DeSoto Library Multi-Purpose Room, and at 5 pm in the City Council Chambers at the Jim Baugh Government Center, located at 211 E. Pleasant Run Road. The application form will be available beginning Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 10 am on the City website at www.desototexas.gov and during both the 10 am and 5 pm workshops on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. It will include a list of mandatory documents and forms that must be included with the application submission in order for it to be considered complete and ready for evaluation. Approval for the Transportation Assistance Program will be limited to a "first completed application received" basis. It is anticipated that the Transportation Assistance Program will have funding for 45 to 55 applicants.

DeSoto residents in need of transportation assistance are encouraged to attend one of these workshops to meet with program administrators to discuss eligibility requirements and receive assistance in applying for the program.

“Although this initiative only addresses transportation issues for a limited number of residents who qualify based on income, DeSoto is also working with STAR Transit to offer public transportation for all DeSoto residents,” said DeSoto Mayor Curtistene McCowan.

For more information about STAR Transit and the DeSoto services, visit www.STARtransit.org or call 877-631-5278 during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm.
