Background
Texas leads the nation in traffic fatalities. In 2013, 3,377 people were killed and more than 300,000 were injured on Texas streets and highways. Many of these deaths and injuries could have been prevented if the victims had been wearing seat belts.
Safety belts save lives. And that's why Texas is drawing the line for drivers and passengers: buckle up or face a fine.
DeSoto is joining with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Department of Transportation and hundreds of police and sheriffs' departments throughout Texas to launch a massive statewide CLICK IT OR TICKET effort to enforce the state's occupant protection laws for adults and children.
Increased patrols focus on safety belt and speed violations as well as DWI violations.
The safety of those on our roadways is the objective.
