November 6, 2018 - Special Election Information

On August 20, 2018, the City Council for the City of DeSoto held a Special Meeting to consider the resignation of Councilmember Place 2, Virgil Helm, who resigned on August 13, 2018.

This resignation created a vacancy on the DeSoto City Council.  Per the Texas Constitution and the City Charter, the City is required to fill the vacancy by majority vote of the qualified voters at a Special Election which shall be called within 120 days.  Although the timeliness and timeframes are short and limited because of the date of the resignation, holding a Special Election during this time would be in the best interest of the City as it would save the City taxpayers a significant amount of money.  Stand-alone elections held outside of uniform dates would be extremely costly. Ordinance 2134-18 and other documents listed under Public Postings support the deadlines and timeframes for such election to occur.

The following are the candidates for this election: Kay Brown-Patrick and Patricia Ledbetter.

Early Voting begins on Monday, October 22, 2018 and ends Friday, November 2,2018.

Early Voting will take place at Disciple Central Community Church located at 901 North Polk Street.

The dates and hours are as follows: Monday-Friday, October 22-26, 2018 (7am to 7pm); Saturday, October 27, 2018(7am to 7pm); Sunday, October 28, 2018 (1pm to 6pm); Monday-Friday, October 29-November 2, 2018 (7am to 7pm).  Election Day voting will be held by precinct only at various DeSoto locations.  For more information, please contact Dallas County Elections at 214-819-6300 or the City Secretary’s Office at 972-230-9646 or .
